KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

planning and booking

Please reach us at reservations@jungleetraveller.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

It is suggested to book a Tiger Safari at least 130 days in advance as the park permits open that time. This will give an opportunity to get the preferred zones for Tiger Safari.

India is the natural home of the majestic Bengal tiger, a symbol of strength, grace, and national pride. The country hosts over 70 tiger reserves under Project Tiger, making it one of the best places in the world to see tigers in their natural habitat. A tiger safari offers a unique opportunity to witness these apex predators while exploring India’s diverse forests, rivers, and grasslands. Beyond tigers, these safaris allow encounters with leopards, elephants, sloth bears, deer, and a rich variety of birdlife.

Taking a tiger safari in India is not just about wildlife spotting—it’s about understanding the ecological importance of tigers as keystone species, learning about conservation efforts, and supporting local communities who rely on ecotourism. The experience combines adventure, education, and a deep connection to India’s natural heritage, making it truly unforgettable.

The Gir National Park in Gujarat is the only natural habitat of the Asiatic lion in the world, making it a truly unique destination for wildlife enthusiasts. A safari here offers the rare opportunity to observe these magnificent predators up close, along with other wildlife such as leopards, striped hyenas, antelopes, and over 300 species of birds.

Beyond sightings, visiting Gir provides insight into conservation success—how careful protection has helped revive the Asiatic lion population from the brink of extinction. Expert guides accompany you on the safaris, sharing knowledge about lion behavior, ecology, and the delicate balance of the park’s ecosystem. An Asiatic lion tour is not just an adventure; it’s an immersive journey into one of India’s most significant wildlife conservation stories.

Clothing Tips for a Safari in India:

  • Wear neutral, earth-toned colors (beige, khaki, olive) to blend in.
  • Layer your clothing for cool mornings and warm afternoons.
  • Use comfortable closed shoes for walking and uneven terrain.
  • Protect yourself from the sun with hats, sunglasses, and long sleeves.
  • Carry light rain gear if visiting during the monsoon.
  • Bring a scarf or bandana and a small backpack for essentials.

A wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, comfortable footwear, light weight jacket, Insect Repellent, Sunscreen, Hand Sanitiser, Personal Medications, Binoculars, Camera are some basic requirements.

Tipping is a common practice on Indian wildlife safaris and is generally expected as a gesture of appreciation for guides, drivers, and staff. While it is not mandatory, it is a way to acknowledge their expertise, effort, and hospitality. We can provide guidance on suggested tipping amounts for each safari and stay during your tour.

While it's not strictly necessary to have specialised camera equipment for a safari in India, having the right gear will significantly enhance your ability to capture wildlife moments, especially for close-up shots of the big cats and other animals in their natural habitat.

For wildlife photography on safaris, a DSLR or mirrorless camera with fast autofocus works best. A telephoto lens (200mm–600mm) is ideal for capturing animals from a distance, while a wide-angle lens can help with landscapes and forest shots. Don’t forget extra batteries, memory cards, and a monopod or bean bag for stability. We can provide bean bags on request.

Drones are not allowed for use in most tiger reserves and national parks in India. The use of drones for aerial photography or videography is heavily regulated by the Indian government, and there are strict rules that prohibit drone use in protected wildlife areas.

Safety & Guidelines

Please reach us at reservations@jungleetraveller.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Strict park regulations are in place for Safaris to ensure the well-being of both tourists and wildlife. Vehicles are only driven by experienced and registered drivers, also every vehicle has a mandatory park guide.

While wildlife safaris are thrilling and educational, very young children may find the long hours in the vehicle, early morning starts, and unpredictable wildlife activity challenging. The rugged terrain, sudden animal sightings, and strict park regulations can make it difficult to ensure their comfort and safety throughout the safari. For the best experience—for both your child and the rest of the group—we recommend that safaris are more suitable for older children (recommended 3yrs & above) who can fully appreciate and follow guidelines during these immersive wildlife adventures.

Guests are never allowed to get down from the vehicle except in designated areas for breakfast or for using the restrooms at designated places.

There are some basic rules to follows like, no standing up inside the vehicle or leaning out, restrictions on loud noises, flash photography, maintaining minimum distance between vehicles and from large animals like tigers, lions, leopards and elephants and off-track movement. Visitors are briefed on these rules before entering the park.

Also refer to Rules and Regulations mentioned at the foot.
